Forests and Biodiversity

Experts indicate that following each previous extinction episode, it took 10 million years or more for the number of species to return to the level of diversity existing prior to the event. If true, human activities could cause irreparable damage if continued unchecked. Estimates vary, but current trends indicate we are in the midst of losing 1 to 11 percent of the world's species each decade.
