The library was founded in 1959 at the same time as EKKE, under the auspices of UNESCO. It falls under the Directorate of Scientific Information and Publications and belongs to the category of special libraries. This was the first library of social sciences in our country with an organised collection. Today it offers approximately 38,000 volumes of books, 340 periodical titles, statistical publications of the National Statistical Service and bibliographical databases.

The purpose of the library is to meet the bibliographical needs of the research programmes of EKKE and to provide information to anyone interested in social science issues.
It makes use of Advance of Geac, the special software for libraries, which covers its operation in addition to the on line catalogue on the Internet to serve all its users. Through this on line catalogue, users are able to search the library material by author, title and subject. The EKKE Library serves the researchers and the other personnel of the Centre, in addition to many external associates, scientists and students.
The library is situated in the EKKE building and provides reading rooms, computer workstations, photocopy machines and microfilm/microfiche viewing machines. The collection is accessible to all and is classified according to the Dewey decimal system.
