The
NSP is an integrated software environment which contains statistical tools and digital content
(data, metadata, operational information etc.) that allows the organization of digital content around
specific research areas. Through processes of additional documentation, standardization and harmonization,
which are defined by the NSP, we can achieve a higher level of organization of the available material,
which allows us to proceed with secondary analysis and processing.
The NSP organizes the data of the
Social Data and Indicators Archive (SDIA) and the
Special Information Bank (SIB) into subject matter databases, which cover a specific research field. In these subject matter databases we collect information,
data and metadata for the specific research field, and after secondary processing,
all of these parts form an integrated set. More specifically, a subject matter
database includes -apart from micro data and macro data- a selected catalogue of references,
operational information for projects, research organizations and human resources, additional metadata for the integration of the data in the data producing process, terminology, models for the organization and design of empirical research etc.
The essential element of the NSP does not rest on the storage of information, since this
is mainly held in the GSDB and the SDIA,
it is rather designed for the integration and structuring of this information in
subject matter databases useful for secondary analysis and processing.
The NSP was developed within the frame of the project "Node Development for the Secondary Processing and Management of Socio-Economic Data and Indicators".
The documentation department of EKKE's Research Support Directorate is responsible for the administration of the Node for Secondary Processing.
