Promoting scientific research and applications for the development of environmental kinds of agriculture and

especially ecological agriculture

Remarks: The questionnaire, except the activities, is completed with the cooperation of Mr Fotopoulo Christo who is

the president of the present administrative board. Mr Bouritsa Angelo, former president of the administrative board in

the 30/11/1997, updated the activities till 10/97

II. Activities

General Issue: Organic agriculture

Issue-Topic: Conferences - various events - information of general public

Activities - Results:

Participation in seminars and taking initiatives with the view of simplifying organic agriculture issues.

Participation in the international Conference on organic agriculture in Copenhagen (1996).

Submission of proposals concerning local development implementation programmes focusing on organic agriculture),

to the Ministry of Education.

Activities - Results:

The Ministry of Education approved the 'Elikon' plan and undertook the necessary arrangements for its final approval

in Luxembourg.

The setting up of the Pan-Hellenic network of ecological products consumers called Dorippi was based on Triptolemos

plan which aimed at bringing together thousands of friends of organic agriculture.

Submission of a proposal for the creation of an information exchange network for the promotion of organic

agriculture, to the General Directorate of Research and Development, with the participation of 30 scientists who were

both members and non-members of our organisation.

Contribution to the drawing up of an internal operation regulation, concerning the relationship amongst the Greek

members of the international Federation of Organic Farming Movements (FOAM).

Activities - Results:

Publication of informational leaflets and of small studies with the view of promoting the development of organic

agriculture specifying that ecological, biological, organic and natural agriculture are identical concepts.

Activities - Results:

Letters were sent to all relevant politicians with the view of connecting the promotion of the European Ecological

Trade-mark (Regulation 880/92) with Regulation 2097/91, at least as far as the 'contents' and the 'products life-cycle'

parts are concerned, that are closely related to agricultural production.

Given the lack of a substantial national agro-environment policies, written and oral representations were made to

policy makers and politicians from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of the Environment.

Writing and submission to Prime Minister's office and all relevant Ministries, of a proposal for a national strategy for

organic agriculture (22 pages).

Contribution to the elaboration of Central Macedonia regional programme aiming at the promotion of an

environmental friendly agriculture (11/95-1/96).

For the first time in Greek organic agriculture history, organic production was subsidised by the State facilitating

exporting opportunities.
