General Issue: Protection of cultural heritage

Issue-Topic: Prevention of demolition of the 'open' cinema Akti

Appeal to monument conservation authorities for the classification of 'Akti' cinema as 'scheduled building' which

resulted in a positive outcome.

The Ministry of Culture adopted the decision by the Archaeological Council on the preservation of the remaining 'open'

or 'summer-time' cinemas

Bringing charges against the Ministry of the Environment and the Public Prosecutor's office in relation to the illegal

installation and construction activities that took place in the area and under the tolerance of the urban planning

department of Vouliagmenis municipality.

Starting a prosecution against those who are involved in construction activities around Vouliagmenis lake. The case

was brought in front of the court in June 1996.

EU) Parliamentary question time, complains lodging to the State Council. The above interventions aimed to

incorporate the lake to 'protection zones' with the Ministry of Culture as the management authority

Complaint lodging to the State Council for the description of the surrounding estates as illegal. Legal procedures are

currently in place as the lake is described as a 'natural document'

Promotion of a presidential degree in accordance to the decision by the State Council (Decision 369/95)

Submission of a formal charge to the Ministry Inspectors against the planning department of Vouliagmenis

municipality for the legalisation of the surrounding estates
