Social intervention on development and environment subjects / to make general propositions for the broader area

/ to seek for solutions on local problems / to promote cultural and educational activities. To promote

environmental protection and environmental upgrading.

II. Activities

General Issue: Ecosystems protection

Issue-Topic: Estuaries

Activities - Results:

A series of representation was made including the submission of documentation and lodging of complaints to the

Forest Directorate, the Agriculture Directorate and environmental groups in relation to the cracking down on illegal

hunting within the total protection zone and the land reclamation of Aliakmonas delta estuary by the Eginion

Similar action took place towards the Ministry of the Environment in relation to the setting the boundaries of the

estuary (positive result).

Participation in a study group for the incorporation of Aliakmonas estuary into LIFE programme.

Activities - Results:

Despatch of documents-complaints towards the Forest Directorate against the illegal tree-cutting activities along the

river-bed banks as well as against their banking up and their pollution from all sorts of litter.

The result was that the municipality decided to issue a prohibition order against the banking up of river beds.

Submission of a proposal to the municipality on the elaboration of a study for the possibility of processing industrial

waste in a waste management installation which was initially designed for processing urban waste (a response is

Submission of documents-charges towards the Public Electricity Company (PEC) of Katerini, the Pieria Forest

Directorate, the Kolindros Forest Police and the Greek ornithological society in relation to the distraction of storks

nests by PEC in order to avoid short-circuits.

The result was the restoration of the damage done and the installation of man-made nests - Opportunities for future

co-operation.

Submission of a proposal to the municipality on the implementation of an integrated paper and aluminium recycling

programme (possible future adoption of the proposal).

Tree-planting of public places by members of the organisation with the participation of the municipality workers and

Activities - Results:

Attempts were made to avert tree-cutting by the 3rd DEKE along the Anthoupoli road.

Lodging of an appeal to the prefecture and the Forest Directorate / asking of a question during question time at the

Parliament from an MP (positive result).

The trees were saved and the cut parts of the tree clusters have been restored.
