Today the Organisation is Association - Union since 1995

Initially the Organisation was Other since 1989

Aims

To protect environment and cultural heritage / to support ecological activities and education through proper means

/ to support ecological and environmental friendly activities in Greece and abroad. To support or encourage

activities, which have general or specific ecological goals, for instance upgrading the natural environment and life

II. Activities

General Issue: Ecosystems protection

Issue-Topic: Kerkini estuary.

Activities - Results:

Launching of a campaign in collaboration with various associations and organising a meeting at Serres area in

relation to the 'Impacts stemming from the rising of Kerkini's lake levee.

Submission of a specific proposal to the prefectural council of Serres during the discussion of the rising of Strimonas

and Lerkinh levees.

Participation in the 'International Birds Festival' organised by the Ornithological society and held at the east levee of

Kerkini lake (bird watching, information of the public about the problems of the estuary).

Launching of a campaign against Laila's ski-resorts extension.

Participation in the Pan-Seraiki mobilisation for the prevention of the sitting of a granite quarry at the north side of

Activities - Results:

Presentation of an exhibition about 'Greek forests' to the schools of the prefecture. Around 450 pupils aged between

10-15 years participated.

Through a press release of ours, we declare our opposition to the organisation the 2004 Olympic Games. Our battle

cry is 'Athens applies - Greece cries bleeds in the original)'.

Intervention made to Serron Forest Inspection for the effective protection of Laila forest. We received no response

Submission of a common proposal with the three ecological-cultural societies of Kerkini, to the developmental seminar

organised by the prefectural government of Serres for the development and protection of Serres environment.

Organisation of a lecture-debate (in collaboration with the Drama Ecological Movement) concerning the dangers

stemming from the operation of Kozlodui nuclear plant.

Participation in the Pan-Hellenic meeting of environmental organisations at the Ministry of the Environment buildings

and submission of a proposal for the protection and effective management of Greece's water, to the Minister.

Presentation offered to the members of our organisation in relation to genetic engineering.

We co-ordinated the Pan-Seraiki Action against the sitting of quarries at the forest of Laila mount and in favour of

declaring the area 'aesthetic forest' (positive result)..

Activities - Results:

Submission of a proposal to the prefectural council of Serres against the sitting of a leaded mad processing factory

(positive results).

Bringing charges against the deceptive behaviour of the prefectural council as regards the continuation of the illegal

operation of Galani quarry at Oinousa (Serres).

Provision of first aid to injured birds and their transportation to EKPAZP in Aegina.

Provision of support EKPAZP's members during bird releasing.

Public information and discussion about averting the sitting of gold processing plant at Olympiada-Stavros area. The

participants were the co-ordination Committee of the surrounding local communities (pending).

Activities - Results:

Submission of a proposal to the municipality of Serres concerning the reduction of noise pollution in town which is

mainly caused from night-clubs and motorcycles. The outcome was a slight improvement.

Interventions to the responsible services of the prefecture for dealing with air pollution in Serres town because of the

use of burning mazut by the central heat system of the buildings. The activity is in progress.
