Performance material: The projector etc are borrowed from the Department of Agriculture, the ETANAM, and the

municipality

Remarks: There is a three-member management committee of annual duration, according to the list of the registering

members. A payment for providing services is given from the prefecture; at the same time there is a continuous

collaboration with the municipal authority

General Issue: Conservation of the environment

Issue-Topic: Ziros lake

Activities - Results:

Ziros lake and its installation was yield to the Federation of Sea Ski for covering training needs. Our organisation

confronted the Federation and last year they were forced to leave the area.

This year, the same operation took place - Possible confrontation.

In 1996, as a result of our initiative, the Network of 'Environmental-Ecological Organisations of West Greece was

founded, and since then, it has been embarked upon many activities.

Representations made to the municipality and the prefecture, publications to the local and Athenian press in relation

to environmental impacts during the 1st phase of the construction of the road connection between Rio and Antirio

Dispatch of a document to the Ministry of the Environment including substantiated arguments. This initiative lead to

the assignment of water pollution measurements to a consultancy.

3) Processing of early fruit and vegetables - packaging

Our organisation plays the role of reviewing the quality of Environmental Impact Statements submitted by the

proponent of a project and consulting the prefectural council.

Provision of information during the elaboration of a study by Ioannina University regarding the measurement the

quantities of brackish water of Louros delta

Organisation of an annual clearing of Monolithio beach from litter prior to the launching of a relevant campaign.

Activities - Results:

Submission of a proposal to the Port Authority, publications to the local press in relation to the transportation and

scuttle of 2 ships that have been grounded in Pogonitsa lagoon for the last 15 years.

The end result is the pollution of the surrounding area from ship degradation. The transportation of the ships at a

time when a safe transportation mode is found, is expected.

Representations made to the municipality and the prefecture and dispatch of a file with substantiated proposals to

the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and public Works regarding:

1. The rational use of underground water sources in order that the need for water of Elaionas area is fully covered -

putting an end to the increase of brackish water extraction from Ionian coasts.

2. Rational use of Filippiada, Petra and Louros irrigation channels so that a bigger rainwater quantity end up at

Louros delta

Representations made to the municipality and the prefecture and dispatch of a file including the substantiated

proposals to the Ministry of the Environment in relation to: 1) the effective use of underground water so as to cover

the irrigation needs of Elaionas area, 2) the effective use of irrigation channels, and 3) the effective management of

Arachthos river in order to sustain its water throughout the year despite the construction of a dam (delta distraction).

Activities - Results:

Ascertainment of the existence of two herds of horses and registering them / Information-sensitisation of the

inhabitants about the history and evolution of the species / Construction of infrastructure for covering the basic

needs of the animals during cold and dry seasons.

Our organisation was in conflict with some gipsies who kill the mothers and get the colts, and with some people

responsible for the protection of stray animals

who hunt horses and supply their meat to stray dogs as a food source / Publications made to the local and Athenisa

press and representations made to the local communities.

Issue-Topic: Swallows

The activity took place in 1996 Range: Local

Activities - Results:

Publications to the press, interventions and submission of a proposal to the prefecture and the municipality with the

view to declare the area as a biotope and the species of swallows as a protected species.

The habitat of swallows has been disturbed by the increased building activities and the tourist activity at the beach,

and as such, their population has been decreased.

Issue-Topic: Storks of Philippiada

Activities - Results:

Submission of a proposal to the municipality of Philippiada in relation to the construction of stork nests at the top of

the Public Electricity Company's poles. The proposal was accepted.

Information - Sensitisation of Philipiada residents and organisation of a fiesta under the title 'of Morgana'.
