Today the Organisation is Association - Union since 1996

Initially the Organisation was Non Typical Collaboration since 1993

Aims

Dissemination of ecological consciousness / Undertaking environmental protection activities and promotion of

ecological balance / Implementation of vocational training programmes on environmental protection / Elaborating

studies–researches in collaboration with other authorities. Organizing the recycling programme /

support–dissemination of an ecological approach towards attitude, way of living and social structure opposing to

II. Activities

General Issue: Ecosystems protection

Issue-Topic: Malia swamp, Potamos estuary

Activities - Results:

Demonstration in the central street of Mallia in favour of the protection of Potamos estuary in collaboration with the

environmental group of Mallia high-school.

Interventions made to the prefecture, the municipality, the Greek Tourist Organisation, the Archaeological Service

with the purpose of fixing of the area's boundaries and of protecting and hedging of the area.

It has to be noted that are active economic interests in the area as well as some Byzantine monuments.

Submission of a study-proposal in collaboration with the Cultural Society of Mallia to the municipality in relation to

Implementation of a two-month pilot paper recycling programme using as collection points some local shops and

It has to be noted that the attempt was successful as the paper was sold in Heralkeon and with income generated, a

number of recycling bins was purchased.

Interventions made to the Forest Inspection against the relocation by the municipality of the rubbish dump in a forest

land. (the issue is pending).

It has to be noted that the operation of an existing area for sanitary land filling has been approved, in line with the

results of the research study conducted by the South Pediada Development Association.
