Today the Organisation is Association - Union since 1981

Initially the Organisation was Non Typical Collaboration since 1979

To protect the natural and anthropogenic environment of Corfu and also the life quality of the citizens / to protect

the cultural heritage

II. Activities

General Issue: Conservation of cultural heritage

Issue-Topic: Old and new fort of Corfu.

Activities - Results:

Interventions made to the prefecture, the municipality, the competent ministries with the view of promoting the issue

of a conservation and restoration order for the two fortresses.

Issue-Topic: Scheduled buildings

Activities - Results:

Developing a list of historical-traditional buildings and attempts made for their declaration as 'scheduled buildings', in

collaboration with the Ministry of Culture (positive result for at least 200 buildings).

Carrying out of a tree planting scheme at schools, pavements, river banks e.t.c.

Activities - Results:

Setting up of a non profiteering company of organic farmers-consumers of ecological products and the complete

prohibition of aerial crop dusting has been realised.

Activities - Results:

Cases of pollution and encroaching (illegal building) in relation to 10 estuaries of Corfu were tracked down by

members of our organisation.

After the illegal activities have been spotted, accusations are made to the police and the local government. These

interventions have, in some cases, positive results.

A similar, more or less, situation can be found in the coastal zone and the small rivers.

Activities - Results:

Organisation of lectures, screening of movies and transparencies to communities, participation in radio and T.V.

programmes in relation to the use of pesticides (several times per year).

Litigation against crop dusting. Despite that the decision actually suspended all crop dusting activities, the prefect

has already granted permission for those to follow.

Co-operation of trained members of our organisation with schools at all levels of the education hierarchy; carrying out
