Activities - Results:

in collaboration with citizens and pupils from local schools, we clean the beaches from litter every spring.

Setting-up a voluntary forest fire - fighting-protection team (1989). Purchase of two fire tenders.

The co-operation with the prefecture resulted in:

1) the purchase of 50 second hand fire tenders, followed by the information of the public on the law regarding the

law about the setting up voluntary forest fire extinguishing groups. The outcome of these actions was that during

1995-96 around 120 forest fires were put out as soon as they were located.

2) setting up of forest fire extinguishing groups in every municipality. The participation rate ranged from 35 to 100

people.

Activities - Results:

Publications to the local newspapers, interventions to the local-prefecture government and Ministries in relation to

the uncontrollable and unmethodical (e.g. lack of environmental and geological studies) carrying out of public works.

For the opening up of new roads and the creation of road junctions at Malagari, Tsabo, Avlaki, Agia Irini, Mertziki,

Kavo-Fonia areas in particular, the usual practice is as follows: The proposed project commences (road widening).

Throughout the process though, the basic objective is changed to that of quarrying of rocks and construction

materials (inert materials), without having had an operation licence.
