Aiming at activities and providing entirely scientific content knowledge to the members and non-members, on

subjects concerning the environment

II. Activities

General Issue: Collection and analysis of data

Issue-Topic: Monitoring stations

Activities - Results:

Operation of an emission monitoring station, 4 nuclear radiation monitoring station, 1 ultraviolet radiation monitoring

station and 1 noise monitoring station.

Systematic collection of information regarding the existing pollution sources (radioactivity, ultraviolet radiation, toxic

waste, vehicle emissions).

All stations are connected to the central monitoring station / Collection of samples (food, soil, water, atmosphere).

Elaboration of a study on mild forms of energy (e.g. aeolic).

Interventions made to the Public Electricity Company in favour of the installation of filters at the chimneys of its plants

(positive outcome).

Activities - Results:

Elaboration of a series of speeches regarding pesticides and various other scientific issues.

Submission of a proposal regarding the use of more environmental friendly pesticides.

Submission of a proposal regarding the replacement of pest control by mechanical methods of farming / Production of

an hourly TV programme every week including environment related issues (Ellada TV of Lakonia, 6/95-9/96).

Establishment of 'Taigetia', an Environmental event/celebration in collaboration with Lakonia and Mesinia prefectures.

Future Activities:

In collaboration with the prefectures of Lakonias and Messinias the establishment of a center for research at Taygetos

will be promoted. This center will accommodate scientists free of charge from all over the word / Establishment of a TV

station exclusively on environmental issues after being placed under programmes of Environmental education
