Aims

Conservation of the culture heritage and the natural environment of Prespes / contributing and supporting in

public and non-public authorities activities for the rational management and the sustainable development of the

region.

II. Activities

General Issue: Conservation of the cultural heritage

Provision of advise and information to the local people in order to sensitise them in relation to scheduled buildings

(positive reaction elicited from the residents but an indifferent reaction was elicited by the competent urban planning

Putting forward a proposal in collaboration with the local authorities in relation to the European Union LEADER (which

was not supported by the state agencies) / Elaboration of a study for the promotion of Agios Germanos area which is

Elaboration of a study for the rational management of meadows.

Drafting and submission of a proposal to the Ministry of the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works

regarding the protection and development of Prespes. The result was that EURO 900,000 were granted and the

Prespes Union was established having the responsibility to advise on the protection of the area.

Elaboration of research programmes and promotion of measures for the protection of silver-pelicans colonies.

Carrying out of protection works for the protection of an endemic sub-species of salmon at Agios Germanos stream.

Elaboration of a research study in relation to the fish population of Prespes lake and the endemic 'Mprana' species.

The Athenian and Thessaloniki press publishes the society’s activities around 10 times a year and the local press

Remarks: By inference, journalists that visit Prespa have a low level of awareness. They tend to only promote

issues which will attract the wider public, thus defeating the purpose. No wild-life professional photography which

leads to negative outcomes.
