University of Bari admission requirements for Master’s degree enrolment
The University of Bari, through the CAP takes part at the CIMEA network, and as many other state universities in Italy it has a very formal procedure for the recognition of previously acquired competences.
The candidate must present all the formal documentation about exams, credits, learning goals and final formal evaluation to the International Office. This request sets up the formal recognition procedure: a committee appointed by each Master degree course and composed by teachers with content knowledge expertise examines the request of recognition.
This committee analyses the coherence between different learning paths and the possibility to recognise credits and/or exams (equivalence). In the end it formally expresses agreement or disagreement with the partial and/or complete recognition of previously acquired competences.
In case of partial recognition, the candidate should add exams to his/her career in order to collect the credits that are needed to complete the Master degree course path.
If an international student or an asylum seeker student intends to be enrolled in a Master degree at the University of Bari (two years course) in order to conclude her/his academic career started in her/his own home country, can go and ask the CAP UNIBA to check the equivalence of her/his education qualifications or the EQPR. The CAP, after a first screening of the submitted formal documentation, orients the student through the recognition of her/his background and supports the student to choose the better suitable degree path. Jointly with the Teaching Committee of the selected Degree course, the recognition of credits allows the student to enrol in the degree course. In case of a previous bachelor degree, given the equivalence of acquired credits, the student can be enrolled in the second or third year of the course degree path.
The asylum seeker student can be, provisory, enrolled in the Master degree course till s/he gets the refugee status. Moreover, given the University of Bari Finance Council decision (Bari, October 12 2021) s/he can have the total taxes exemption.
Since 2016, the University of Bari Aldo Moro (in compliance with the CNVQR), through the CAP- LifeLong Learning Centre, fosters the recognition and valorisation of cultural capital of people with a migratory background, included the asylum seekers, as well as those in need of subsidiary, international, and humanitarian protection (special cases).
The University of Bari offers them the chance to have a “personalised recognition” and a preliminary evaluation of educational qualifications. Moreover, these candidates are supported in eliciting their competences or qualifications starting from the recognition of learning outcomes evidence (first of all, the comparability with CIMEA and EQPR of the European Council).
All candidates with a degree or a qualification recognisable in Italy interested in attending a Master degree at the University of Bari can be enrolled submitting to the International Office the EQPR (released by the European Council) or the CIMEA equivalence and evaluation certificate (except international student). This last certificate replaces the old procedure of recognition through the authentication of educational qualification and the declaration of value released by the Embassies, Consulate and other permanent representatives at the international organizations (https://www.uniba.it/it/studenti/segreterie-studenti/studenti-stranieri/rilascio-di-attestazioni-di-comparabilita-e-verifica-per-titoli-esteri-accordo-universita2019-di-bari-cimea-1).
If an international student intends to acquire the equivalence and evaluation certificate of his/her own educational qualification can ask for the Credential Information Service – CIS at CIMEA. Using the innovative technology of the blockchain, through the service «diplome» (https://www.cimea.it/pagina-diplome), the international student can upload his/her qualifications and directly check the verifiability and authenticity of these documents.

Since 2020, the CAP, given the evaluation session in Italy held in 2019 by the University of Bari and given the release of 42 European Qualifications Passport for Refugees (EQPR), offers a support information service for the EQPR release (in case of insufficient or absent formal documentation) to candidates interested to be enrolled in a master degree course.
As a reply to the current emergence in Ukraine, the CAP has launched an informative session on the EQPR release: this session has explained to Ukraine candidates how to do in order to be enrolled in a degree at the University of Bari, as well as the procedure to be allowed for a temporary practise of health professions (Decreto-Legge 21 Marzo 2022, n. 21, art. 34 – Delega alla disciplina del riconoscimento delle qualifiche professionali sanitarie per medici ucraini).
A refugee student which has not a complete documentation of his/her educational qualification or has a partial/incomplete documentation can ask for the release of the EQPR: https://www.coe.int/en/web/education/recognition-of-refugees-qualifications,
After a registration at this link: https://wallet.diplo-me.eu/coe/#/auth/login it is possible to proceed with the evaluation of the available documentation filling a questionnaire. An in-depth colloquium managed by the European Council or by its involved partner is also part of this procedure.
The international/refugee student, during the academic career at the Bari University can receive further help through the Mentorship and Peer Tutoring Service. This service is aimed to support international/refugee students and to involve them in the academic life in order to foster their academic success and their social and cultural inclusion.
