George Kandylis has studied International and European Politics in the University of Macedonia and has done postgraduate work in Urban Geography in the University of Thessaly, where he received a M.Sc. and a Ph.D in Urban Social Geography (Thesis: Urban Formation and Immigration: new immigrants, old patterns and new urban formation rationalisms in the city of Thessaloniki). He is a Research Fellow in the National Centre for Social Research (NCSR), Athens, since 2008. He has mainly worked in research on contemporary immigration to Greece and its impact on the formation of the Greek cities. His areas of interest include social segregation, social cohesion, nationalism and spatial mobility. He has been active in teaching work in the University of Thessaly, Harokopeion University (Department of Geography) and the Aegean University (Department of Geography).
