Roxane Caftanzoglou,
Social Anthropologist, Research Director, EKKE


Dr Roxane Caftanzoglou studied social anthropology in Sorbonne and completed her Ph.D on kinship and household structures at the Panteion University, Athens. She is a research director at the Institute for Urban and Rural Sociology, National Centre for Social Research. She has conducted research and published on the subjects of family history, urban culture and space, cultural identity, localism, cultural heritage, museums and the construction of the past. She has taught college graduate courses in the ethnography of modern Greece and has collaborated with faculty departments of social anthropology. Her more recent publications (in English & French) include: (2005) ‘Narrations de l’identite culturelle grecque: les trois musees nationaux d’Athenes’, (in collaboration with I. Toundassaki) Ethnologie Francaise XXXV, 2: 229-242 (2010)  ‘Producing and Consuming Pictures: Representations of a Landscape’, in Stroulia A. & S. Buck Sutton, (eds.) Archaeology in Situ. Sites, Archaeology and Communities in Greece, Lexington Books, Lanham, Boulder, New York, Toronto, Plymouth UK, pp. 159-178. She has collaborated in the editing of the IURS’ collective volume (2009) T. Maloutas et al. (eds.) Social and Spatial Transformation in 21st Century Athens, Athens, NCSR (in Greek).
