Use of natural spaces in Athens- some research results

By refering to a part of the research results of the project ‘Use of Natural Spaces in Athens- as a complex indicator for inhabitants’ quality of life’ realized by the author as part of the larger program ‘Trends of Social Change in the Urban Area of Athens at the beginning of 21th century’, the presentation handled about followings issues: 1.General concerns of the project as regards the possibility for the inhabitants of a contemporary city to use urban and periurban natural spaces as a determining factor in their quality of life and the specification of this general idea in the geographical determined space of a concrete city and the social and human level of reference. 2.The methodology combining space and socio-anthropological perspectives that has embodied a step by step investigation of all parametres that arise from the relationship under study. 3.The geographical space of reference that has been studied as space, nattural attribute, public function and vision that has to be revised. 4.The descriptive data as regards the human presence within the study sites and some conclusions from the observation survey. 5.The qualitative study, as work in progress, concerned with the relationship of Athenians to the natural enviroment of Attiki and the findings of the survey based on interviews with free discussion addressed to selected persons of all ages, residents of Athens and users of the natural open spaces of Attiki with reference to all periods from '20 until now. 6. The quantitative research with the findings of the questionnaire based survey focusing to the use of urban natural spaces in Athens and way of life.
