Commuting and transformation processes of the functional region of Athens

This paper is about one characteristic aspect of urban mobility, that of commuting, in the case of Athens. The boundaries of the functional regional area of the capital are outlined, by examining commuting densities between different parts of the urban and periurban tissue and what is here defined as the city-centre. The latest census data of 2001 are used.
