PARIS ASLANIDIS
SHORT CV
Paris Aslanidis is an Associate Researcher at the National Centre for Social Research (EKKE) in Athens. His work brings together comparative politics, social movement studies and computational social science, with a focus on populism. He has published in political science and sociology journals such as Political Studies, Sociological Forum, Mobilization and Quality & Quantity. His monograph Populist Mobilization was published by Oxford University Press in 2024. The Greek edition, Aganaktismenoi: Laikistika Kinimata se Ellada kai Islandia (Indignados: Populist Movements in Greece and Iceland), was published by Alexandreia in 2026.
From 2024 to 2026 he was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at EKKE with the GREEKPOP project, which studies the political history of Greek populism through parliamentary speech. As part of the project, he created Eleni, a fully digitized corpus of the Greek parliamentary debates (Efimeris ton Syzitiseon tis Voulis, 1862–1967), available at eleni.ekke.gr. His recent research uses large language models to detect forms of populist rhetoric.
Before joining EKKE, he taught political science at Yale University (2015–2024). He has been a visiting fellow at the Scuola Normale Superiore, the European University Institute and Central European University. He holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Macedonia.
