Social transformations in the Eastern Coast of Attica

The coastal zone is a frequent subject of study due to the significant increase of human settlements along coastlines worldwide and constitutes a common level of reflection and action by combining socio-economic with ecological orientation. Given the global ascertainment of the need for integrated management of coastal areas, it seems, nevertheless, that increasing population trends, with the consequent impact on these areas, have not mitigated. The proposed article will examine the socio-demographic evolution in the case of the coastal area of eastern Attica. This area is a geographic unit of several neighbouring entities, which appears to acquire characteristics of distinctive local development within the greater metropolitan area of the city of Athens and has specific characteristics as demographic unity with significant increase of its permanent population.
