SHORT CV

Christos Iliadis has been a Researcher (Grade C) at the National Centre for Social Research since February 2026, specializing in political and cultural identities.

He studied Political Science and History at Panteion University (BA) and the University of Athens (MA), and completed his PhD at the Essex School of Discourse Analysis, Department of Government, University of Essex (UK), with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). 

His doctoral thesis focuses on policies concerning the minority of Thrace during the period 1945–1966. He was the first researcher to study the declassified archive of the General Inspectorate of Foreign and Minority Schools and to uncover the operation of the Coordinating Council of Thrace Part of his dissertation was published under the title “’Thrace is Under Threat’: Confidential Correspondence” (in Greek), (Vivliorama, 2018).

His postdoctoral trajectory is marked by strong research activity, participation in funded projects, and international collaborations. He has served as principal or collaborating researcher in projects funded by HFRI (ELIDEK), IKY, and European institutions, with a focus on issues of social inclusion and identities.

During the last years, his research centers on questions of exclusion and social integration, with a particular focus on Roma communities in Greece and Europe. His current research examines the histories of Roma inclusion in the 20th century, focusing on access to services and rights, citizenship, and public policy. 

As an expert, he has conducted social research in more than 15 projects and has authored reports and evaluations for international organizations such as the Council of Europe, the EEA Grants, and the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA). From 2017 to 2022, he served as the national coordinator in Greece for the joint Council of Europe and European Commission programme JUSTROM on access to justice for Roma women. In 2024, he conducted the evaluation of the implementation of the Active Citizens Fund programme in Greece, while in 2023, of the European Commission’s CERV programme. Since 2023, he has been the Social Research Quality Manager for the FRANET consortium in Greece.

He has taught International Relations Theory (2009–2011) at the University of Essex, as well as Theories of Nationalism, Political Theory, and Discourse Analysis at Panteion University (2018–2019), and has collaborated with the Hellenic Open University in teaching European Culture courses (2020–2021).

In addition to his monograph, he has published more than 11 articles in academic journals and 9 chapters in edited volumes, and has produced educational material, book reviews, and unpublished reports.
